MVHS Ensembles

Choral Ensembles

Choral music is both an academic, curricular subject and an after-school extra-curricular activity. At MVHS each of these elements are highly valued. Our curricular studies are measured by a student’s grade during class and graded concerts and tests. The extra-curricular activities are measured in our lettering system (see Lettering information on pages 13).

Jag Singers – This choir is an advanced, auditioned ensemble of up to 24 SATB (Soprano – Alto – Tenor – Bass) voices. This choir will perform various genres of music, including jazz, madrigals, multicultural and other styles as needed. Members will perform outside of class time in area concerts, KSHSAA Regional and State contests, Kansas Music Educations Association (KMEA) district auditions and will serve as ambassadors of the choir department for school sporting events and area functions. Members of Jag Singers must also participate in Jag Chorale.

Jag Chorale – This choir is an intermediate, auditioned ensemble for SATB (Soprano – Alto – Tenor – Bass) voices who have prior high school singing experience. Primary focus will be on building musicianship skills while developing the voice. In addition to 4 required evening performances, this ensemble will perform at KSHSAA Large Group Festival.

Grace Notes – This choir is a beginner to intermediate, non-auditioned ensemble for treble (Soprano – Alto) voices in 10th-12th grades. Primary focus will be developing music literacy skills, rehearsal skills, and building on musicianship skills while developing the voice. In addition to 4 required evening performances, this ensemble will perform at KSHSAA Large Group Festival.

Treble Choir – This choir is a beginner ensemble (no prior singing experience at the high school level) for Soprano and Alto voices in 9th grade. The primary focus of this choir will be developing music literacy skills, rehearsal skills and continuing to help the voice develop. In addition to 4 required evening performances, this group will perform at KSHSAA Large Group Festival.

Bass Choir (Choir Foundations) – This choir is a beginner ensemble (no prior singing experience at the high school level) for Tenor and Bass voices. The primary focus of this choir will be developing music literacy skills, rehearsal skills and continuing to help the voice develop. In addition to 4 required evening performances, this group will perform at KSHSAA Large Group Festival.
