About the Teacher
Mrs. Cindy Rodes, Collaborative Accompanist
Cindy Rodes is in her seventh year of accompanying the choirs at MVHS. She began playing at the age of four and taught piano lessons throughout high school. Mrs. Rodes majored in music education at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, and taught choir and orchestra for several years in Colorado and Oregon. In addition to accompanying the choirs at Mill Valley, Mrs. Rodes is a substitute teacher and is active in the Kansas City area as a freelance musician. She has been married to her husband, Stan, for 46 years. They are the parents of two adult children and grandparents to four amazing grandchildren.
Ms. Laura Vanleeuwen, Director
Laura VanLeeuwen (Coach V) is so excited to be the new choir director here at Mill Valley! This is her 26th year of teaching HS Choir- having previously taught at Olathe West and Shawnee Mission West. She holds four music degrees: a BM in vocal performance from Wichita State University, a BME in music education, an MM in Choral Conducting, and an MM in voice performance- all from UMKC. In her free time, she loves to cook, crochet and RUN!!!! 😊
